A short guide to obtaining website clients by Brian Dinter – Let me first start off by saying that I am by no means a writer, this will be evident as you continue to read. The purpose of this short article is to help web and graphic designers like myself, obtain new clients. This may not be the easiest way, but as we all know, solidifying new clients is never an easy task. For anyone that runs a small company on a shoestring budget, hiring a marketing/sales team just isn’t an option. As the owner, you have to wear the hat of the President, CEO, Marketing Director, Sales Manager, Accounts Payable, and Accounts Receivable while still being the Web or Graphic Designer. It is taxing at times, but we must forge ahead. Reconnaissance The first thing to remember is to always have a watchful eye on your surroundings while driving, walking, at the health club, sandwich shop, etc., keeping an eye out for vans, trucks, billboards, posters, flyers and business cards. Anything you come across that provides company information, be it phone numbers or web addresses, take note of it, write it down or even take a photo. You may want to even try to find business parks and look for the sign of listed businesses in that business plaza. I typically take a photo of the sign to use when assembling my list of potential contacts. Assembly Once you’ve compiled a list, create a spreadsheet with the relevant company information. Now, here is where the fun begins. I typically try to get at least 50 plus companies into a spreadsheet before moving onto the next step. Break it down Once you have a substantial list company names, you will want to do a Google search for that company and see if they have a website. If they do, take note on the following: Does the site look dated? Is the site done entirely in tables? Can the site be improved? How would you improve it? Once you’ve critiqued the site, make a note of all the things that are right or wrong with the site as a whole. Copy any contact information available on the website for the person responsible for maintaining the site. Do this for all the companies listed in your spreadsheet. Once you have a comprehensive list of all the websites shortcomings, you can move onto the next step. Email Template Its good practice to have a basic email template that you can customize based on the company, your observations of the website and information on how your company can assist. Below is a typical example that you can use and modify to suit your particular needs. Refer back to your spreadsheet for relevant contact information. Good Morning! My name is Brian Dinter with ZeroHour Studios. We’re a small web/graphic design company out of (Your City/State Here). The reason for my email is...

StephenKing.com is proud to announce The Dark Tower: The Wind Through the Keyhole. The next installment of the epic series is set for release in 2012. From Stephen King on his official Website. ——————————————- Dear Constant Readers, At some point, while worrying over the copyedited manuscript of the next book (11/22/63, out November 8th), I started thinking—and dreaming—about Mid-World again. The major story of Roland and his ka-tet was told, but I realized there was at least one hole in the narrative progression: what happened to Roland, Jake, Eddie, Susannah, and Oy between the time they leave the Emerald City (the end of Wizard and Glass) and the time we pick them up again, on the outskirts of Calla Bryn Sturgis (the beginning of Wolves of the Calla)? There was a storm, I decided. One of sudden and vicious intensity. The kind to which billy-bumblers like Oy are particularly susceptible. Little by little, a story began to take shape. I saw a line of riders, one of them Roland’s old mate, Jamie DeCurry, emerging from clouds of alkali dust thrown by a high wind. I saw a severed head on a fencepost. I saw a swamp full of dangers and terrors. I saw just enough to want to see the rest. Long story short, I went back to visit an-tet with my friends for awhile. The result is a novel called The Wind Through the Keyhole. It’s finished, and I expect it will be published next year. It won’t tell you much that’s new about Roland and his friends, but there’s a lot none of us knew about Mid-World, both past and present. The novel is shorter than DT 2-7, but quite a bit longer than the first volume—call this one DT-4.5. It’s not going to change anybody’s life, but God, I had fun. – Steve King

Ain’t it Cool News is reporting the following: Deadline is reporting tonight that Javier Bardem is closing on a deal for him to play Roland Deschain, the Last Gunslinger, in THE DARK TOWER trilogy, as well as be in the television show that will run between the films. I think this might be a first in a large-scale production like this – a television series that runs between each film release, with the series between films 2 and 3 being a prequel. I’d imagine that part of the TV series would cover the events of WIZARD AND GLASS, and since the characters in that are younger, I don’t think they would be casting Bardem for Roland in that except in brief moments. According to the article, the deal isn’t finalized yet, but it’s close, close enough for Ron Howard to be looking at other actors to play Jake, Eddie, and Susannah, as well as the Man in Black and the various other characters. Bardem’s a good choice – there’s a real nobility and a sense of gravitas about him, but as we’ve seen in NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN he can play someone who is prone to violence at a moment’s notice. I’m not sure that this kind of adaptation would be able to get the entire scope of Stephen King’s saga, but that may be a blessing. I think this may be a case, as in LORD OF THE RINGS, that a completely loyal adaptation of the story may not be in order. Now with the major casting hurdle out of the way, Howard can concentrate on the other actors to fill out the rest of the cast. But it looks like THE DARK TOWER saga is indeed coming to screens both large and small.

According to previews, Dead Island will be an open-ended sandbox zombie survival game in the first-person but with an emphasis on melee combat. You play one of four characters who wakes up in his or her hotel room after a night of heavy partying on a New Guinea resort island only to discover that there’s been a zombie outbreak sometime during the night. Your character is immune from infection for some reason and must try to survive the scourge as long as possible, scavenging weapons on the way. Honestly, it looks fantastic, with a guiding RPG-like quest system for those who want more guidance. This is the Just Cause 2 of zombie games. It’s due out sometime this year, but other than that, Techland isn’t saying much. Even if you don’t care for zombies, do yourself a favor: watch that trailer. Read more at IGN

In “X-Men: First Class,” Charles Xavier (James McAvoy, playing the role originated by Patrick Stewart) and Erik Lehnsherr (Michael Fassbender, stepping in for Ian McKellen) are compatriots, bound together by their mutant abilities that have not yet been revealed to the world. When a band of evil mutants, the Hellfire Club, begins working behind the scenes to orchestrate a nuclear war, Xavier and Lehnsherr put together a team of young mutants to stop them. The new trailer gives us the first look at Kevin Bacon as Sebastian Shaw, the leader of the malevolent Hellfire Club. He is assisted by Emma Frost (played by January Jones), who can be seen mutating her skin into diamonds. There is also a brief look at Azazel (Jason Flemyng), the red-skinned villain who is able to teleport (much like his future son, Nightcrawler, who appeared in “X2″). Plus, the trailer gives us the first look at the teenage mutants who become the original team of X-Men. Beast (Nicholas Hoult) is seen before, after, and during his transformation into his more familiar furry appearance. Also there is a shot of Mystique (Oscar-nominee Jennifer Lawrence, taking over for Rebecca Romijn) changing from her human form to her natural blue-skinned state. New members of the team are also highlighted, including Angel Salvador (Zoe Kravitz), the young woman with the insect wings. There is also footage of Havok (Lucas Till), who blasts energy out of his hands — in the same way his brother, Cyclops, does with his eyes in the earlier films. Director Matthew Vaughn told Entertainment Weekly that the 1960s setting makes this film like “X-Men meets [James] Bond, with a little bit of ‘Thirteen Days’ thrown in.” It’s clear in the trailer that the style of the ’60s is everywhere in the movie, from the character’s regular clothes to their X-Men uniforms, which copy the blue-and-yellow color scheme from the original comic books. Obviously, there is a lot of action in the movie, but Vaughn insists there’s more to it than that. He said, “It’s got a lot of teenage angst. The ‘Twilight’ girls will like it.” Article Source: http://blog.movies.yahoo.com/blog/627-x-men-first-class-mutates-history-in-new-trailer
