Watch the New Trailer for ‘Iron Man 2′

Posted by DeadLast On March - 9 - 2010

He may not have superpowers, but, you’ve got to admit that Tony Stark has some awesome toys. He built three incredible suits in “Iron Man,” but by the looks of the brand-new trailer for this summer’s “Iron Man 2,” the technology in the sequel will top the first.

Star Robert Downey Jr. unveiled the trailer on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” Sunday night after the Oscars, and it gives a better look at both a new villain and Tony’s latest high-tech armor in the next movie.

The trailer gives us a better look at Ivan Vanko, aka Whiplash (played by Mickey Rourke), at work developing his own arc reactor — the same technology Tony Stark uses to power his Iron Man suit. Vanko builds his own mechanized weapon, and we get to see the power of his electrical whips when he slices Stark’s F-1 racer in two.

With pressure building on Tony from both Vanko and the U.S. government, we see him at work as well. In his laboratory, he aims a laser at a new, triangular-shaped arc reactor, and apparently almost blowing himself up in the process. But judging from shots of the updated Iron Man suit later in the trailer, he does get the triangle reactor to work.

Vanko is subsequently recruited by Justin Hammer (played by Sam Rockwell), a villainous weapons manufacturer out to destroy Tony Stark. In the comics, Hammer is depicted as an older, white-haired Brit, but the casting of Rockwell makes him more of a contemporary for Robert Downey Jr. Hammer enlists Vanko to help him build an army of fully robotic warriors, saying, “I want to make Iron Man look like an antique.”

In the trailer’s biggest action moment, Tony teams up with his old friend James “Rhodey” Rhodes (Don Cheadle, replacing Terrence Howard from the first movie) to take on Hammer’s bots. Rhodes dons a refitted version of one of Tony’s old suits — dubbed “War Machine” — and the two friends are attacked on all sides. Apparently, the drones can fly as well, and we see them chasing after Iron Man across the skies.

But the trailer saves the coolest bit of new tech for the very end. After Whiplash destroys Tony’s car, he deploys a metallic briefcase that pops open and starts to unfold. The case transforms around Tony until he is completely encased in a red-and-silver version of the Iron Man armor. Besides just being an amazing effect to watch, this scene is also a tribute to the comic books. In the early “Iron Man” stories from the ’60s, Tony carried around his armor in a briefcase so it would always be at the ready. In the books, though, the pieces just fit inside the case and didn’t actually turn into the suit.

To see the other technological toys that Tony Stark and his foes will use in their battles, you’ll have to check out “Iron Man 2,” when it opens on May 7.

Terminator 5 & 6 Plots Revealed?

Posted by DeadLast On February - 17 - 2010

Deadline Hollywood got a chance to look at a script done by William Wisher for Terminator 5 and 6 and it seems it goes right back to the roots of the franchise. William Wisher helped write the first two Terminator movies but chose to not be a part of Terminator 3 out of respect for James Cameron. You gotta respect a guy who takes food off his own plate to respect a filmmaker.

In his vision of Terminator 5 and 6 William Wisher would continue the war from Terminator 3 but also incorporate some of Terminator Salvation. The key element would be Sarah Conner’s character returning and the time travel element being brought back in so that Conner and Reese get to spend more time then just their own fated visit together.

William Wisher’s take on the films would also introduce new Terminators including a terminator that can morph by merging with other Terminators to become a larger one. there is also apparently a shocking role laid into the script for Arnold which according to Deadline is as shocking as his return in Terminator 2 as a body guard and not a hunter-killer. It all sounds quite interesting but at the end of the day after how bad Terminator 4 was the only way I am getting interested in Terminator 5 and 6 is if they say the magic words… James Cameron directing!

‘Spider-Man 4′ scrapped; reboot planned

Posted by DeadLast On January - 12 - 2010

Columbia has scrapped “Spider-Man 4″ and is rebooting its Spider-Man film franchise.

The studio is parting ways with director Sam Raimi and “Spider-Man” stars Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst and is taking the webslinger’s alter ego, Peter Parker, back to high school.

The new movie, which will still be produced by Avi Arad and Laura Ziskin and Marvel Studios, is eyeing a release in summer 2012.

The news of the reboot follows weeks of script problems in which the studio was at loggerheads with Raimi over which villains to use in the movie. The clashes were kept mostly under radar but last week erupted into the public when it became clear that the studio was not going to meet its start date and subsequently its May 6, 2011, release date.

Columbia and Raimi put on a unified front Monday when making the announcement they were parting.

“A decade ago we set out on this journey with Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire, and together we made three Spider-Man films that set a new bar for the genre. When we began, no one ever imagined that we would make history at the boxoffice, and now we have a rare opportunity to make history once again with this franchise.

“Peter Parker as an ordinary young adult grappling with extraordinary powers has always been the foundation that has made this character so timeless and compelling for generations of fans. We’re very excited about the creative possibilities that come from returning to Peter’s roots and we look forward to working once again with Marvel Studios, Avi Arad and Laura Ziskin on this new beginning,” Sony Pictures co-chairman Amy Pascal said in a statement.

Said Raimi: “Working on the Spider-Man movies was the experience of a lifetime for me. While we were looking forward to doing a fourth one together, the studio and Marvel have a unique opportunity to take the franchise in a new direction, and I know they will do a terrific job.”

Blake Lively Suits Up to Join Superhero Club

Posted by DeadLast On January - 12 - 2010

“Gossip Girl” Blake Lively may want to set aside her New York fashionista wardrobe and prepare to incorporate more Lycra. The actress is the latest to join the hero squad after she signed on to star in “Green Lantern,” based on the DC Comic series. Chalk it up to one more sign that everyone’s a superhero these days.

Lively will star as Carol Ferris. She will star as the love interest for Green Lantern, played by Ryan Reynolds, who has plenty of his own good deeds ahead. After wearing green for the Martin Campbell-directed movie, Reynolds will return for “Deadpool,” a spinoff based on his character in the hit film, “X-Men Origins: Wolverine.” Not to worry, “X-Men” fans — that doesn’t mean the franchise will take a hit. Director Bryan Singer is returning for another round, and is planning a prequel that is being called “X-Men: First Class.”

Singer shared a few plot details with Variety, noting that it will cover “the formative years of Xavier and Magneto, the formation of the school and where [their] relationship took a wrong turn. There will be a lot of new mutants and a great villain.”

Good news. Mutants and great villains mean plenty of juicy roles to go around, not that Hollywood seems to be hurting with Gwyneth Paltrow, Scarlett Johansson, and Robert Downey Jr. teaming up for “Iron Man 2″ or “Jonah Hex,” where Megan Fox and Josh Brolin try to rid the world of the undead.

The only actor who seems to have had enough super-antics? Stuart Townsend, who gave up the role of the villain of Marvel Comic’s movie adaptation of “Thor.” Townsend left the project today, citing creative differences, according to sources close to the set, who add that he’ll be replaced by Joshua Dallas. The movie begins production today, with a power cast (naturally) that also includes Natalie Portman and Anthony Hopkins.

Green Lantern’s Ring-Bearers

Posted by DeadLast On January - 5 - 2010

While the cast of Green Lantern, besides Ryan Reynolds, is being kept under lock and key, a few startling crew announcements have raised our hopes exceptionally high for this film. These new additions could make GL your new favorite superhero.

Superhero Hype has the latest news about Martin Campbell’s, from Casino Royale, Green Lantern.

The entire thing will be shot by cinematographer Dion Beebe, who not only shot the amazing-looking Equilibrium, but won an Academy Award for Memoirs of a Geisha.

He’ll be working with production designer Grant Major, who worked on The Ruins and King Kong and took home an Oscar for his work on Lord of The Rings. And costume designer Ngila Dickson, who also received an Academy Award for LOTR.

And finally Art Director François Audouy who helped bring the gorgeous scenes from Watchmen to life, is joining the crew. So it seems that Warner Brothers isn’t screwing around with this picture, and is investing big money for big turn out. Gone are any campy expectations we had for this film, we’re now expecting something much more epic.

Also, our insider sources tell us that production is readying in New Orleans, and should be expecting up to a thousand construction workers for sets and special effects at peak production. Rumors on the internet would lead us to believe that filming would then start in March, ending in either July of August 2010.
