Tron: Legacy isn’t even out and Disney is talkin’ 3

Posted by DeadLast On April - 15 - 2010

There are rumors that Disney is planning a sequel the the yet to be released TRON: Legacy. Sources say the studio has already asked for a script for a 3rd installment of the Tron movies.

No plot details to date. They did hire two writers, Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz, who currently write for ABC’s LOST.

So the theory is that the series will go TRON(1982), TRON: Legacy (2010), and TRON Untitled(2011).

I guess the 3rd installment getting a green-light depends on the success of TRON: Legacy.

Friends, Romans, Countrygeeks, lend me your ears! Deadline brings us news that Joss Whedon is thisclose to directing the upcoming Avengers adaptation, the mega-sequel-spinoff that will bring together Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, and more Marvel superheroes. PopWatchers, I’m dying. I’m on the floor, choking on happiness, while my brain is simultaneously imploding and exploding with disbelief and rapture.

Marvel is not commenting on this news, but if there’s even a ring of truth here, that’s cause for rejoicing across the globe. I had, frankly, been a bit worried about the Avengers movie. Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man is a more-than-proven quantity, but we’re still a year away from seeing Chris Evans as Captain America and Chris Hemsworth as Thor. And balancing so many big personalities in the same movie, while also making time for beloved B-players (Hi, Hawkeye!), would take a very particular kind of a director: A fizzy-dialogue-writing, massive-cast-juggling, funny-sad-thrilling-terrifying-singing-dancing filmmaker genius.

Enter Joss Whedon, who excels at all that and more. PopWatchers, are you as excited as I am by the news that the Buffy/Firefly/Dollhouse/Dr. Horrible maestro might be taking hold of Marvel’s superteam? Aren’t the casting possibilities just endless? I see Sarah Michelle Gellar and David Boreanaz playing married superheroes Wasp and Ant Man, and Anthony Stewart Head playing the Avengers’ butler Jarvis, and Nathan Fillion playing Hawkeye…

Castlevania Movie!

Posted by DeadLast On April - 7 - 2010

The Castlevania movie might have had a stake rammed through its heart earlier this spring, but the project is showing signs of life.

Saw franchise co-creator and director of Dead Silence and Death Sentence, James Wan, has signed on to co-write and helm the flick.

Previously, Stomp The Yard director Sylvain White was pegged to direct.

“I’m very fresh on this project, so its early stages and I’m still trying to work things out, but the producers love my vision for it,” James Wan tells website Bloody-Disgusting. “I’ll be working on the script with a writer to give it a new spin, different to the previous versions. This will have my stamp on it which Konami is very excited about.”

Wan is interested in how Konami took iconic Dracula mythos and mixed it with a Japanese pop-culture vibe. “That’s the East-meets-West tone I want to visually expand on for the film,” he continues. “I’m thrilled by the opportunity to make a highly stylized, fantasy, action film that focuses on the gothic story-line and the cool, anime-like characters. For once, the human hero is as sexy and dangerous as the vampire villain, and his weapon of choice was what attracted me to the project in the first place — The Vampire Killer Whip.” Good news for fans of the franchise. Earlier drafts of the script had the whip replaced with a sword.

The Australian filmmaker is no stranger to video games — he directed a trailer for horror game Dead Space. Above is concept art for his vision of Castlevania.
